That Other Dashboard · Guides

Connect Meta Ads, Klaviyo and Recharge.

That Other Dashboard reads your Shopify orders from the moment you install it. On the paid plans, which start with a 14 day free trial, you can add your other tools so ad spend, email revenue and subscriptions sit next to those sales. Meta Ads and Klaviyo connect with their own login screens. Recharge connects with a read only key you make in Recharge. This guide walks through all three.

Before you start

  • Open That Other Dashboard from your Shopify admin and find the Data sources panel. Every tool has its own Connect button there.
  • Use a computer rather than the Shopify phone app. Meta's login in particular doesn't work on phones yet.
  • Everything here is read only. That Other Dashboard never changes a campaign, an email, a subscription or a setting in any of your tools.

Meta Ads (Facebook and Instagram)

  1. Press Connect next to Meta Ads. Facebook's login opens in a new tab, because Facebook won't load inside Shopify admin.
  2. Log in with the Facebook profile you use for Ads Manager.
  3. Choose your business portfolio, then tick the ad account (or accounts) That Other Dashboard may read.
  4. Allow the one permission it asks for, which is to read ad performance.
  5. Back in That Other Dashboard, press Choose account, pick the ad account that runs your store's ads and press Use this account.

The login belongs to your business portfolio rather than to the person who clicked, and it only reaches the ad accounts you ticked. It doesn't run out, so you won't be asked to log in again every couple of months. It only stops if you remove That Other Dashboard in Meta's Business settings, under Integrations and then Connected apps, or take the ad account out of your portfolio.

No business portfolio? Most Shopify stores have one already, because Shopify's Facebook and Instagram channel makes one. If your ad account sits outside a portfolio, add it to one first in Business settings, under Accounts and then Ad accounts.

What it reads: daily spend, impressions, clicks, purchases, purchase value and three second video plays for the account, and the same for every ad, with its campaign and ad set. Meta keeps updating recent days as late purchases come in, so That Other Dashboard reads the last few days again each time it refreshes.

Klaviyo

  1. Press Connect next to Klaviyo.
  2. Log in to Klaviyo. If you have more than one Klaviyo account, pick the one linked to this store.
  3. Klaviyo lists what That Other Dashboard can read (your account details, campaigns, flows and metrics, all read only). Press Allow.

While That Other Dashboard is new to Klaviyo's marketplace, Klaviyo may show a notice that the app hasn't been reviewed yet before the Allow screen. That is Klaviyo's standard notice for new apps, and the access you give is the same read only access either way.

It needs Klaviyo's Shopify integration. Klaviyo works out email and SMS revenue from the orders its Shopify integration records. If yours isn't set up, That Other Dashboard will say Klaviyo has no Placed Order metric yet. Turn on the Shopify integration in Klaviyo, then press Reconnect.

What it reads: revenue and orders Klaviyo credits to each campaign and flow, split into email and SMS, and how many messages went out. The figures match Klaviyo's own reports, which put a campaign's revenue on the day it was sent and keep adding orders for the length of your attribution window. Klaviyo cancels a login that hasn't been used for 90 days, so if you leave That Other Dashboard unopened for three months you may need to press Reconnect.

Recharge: make a read only API token

Recharge doesn't offer a login screen for apps like this one, so you make a token in Recharge and paste it in. Give it read access to three things and nothing else.

  1. In Recharge, go to Tools & apps, then API tokens.
  2. Click Create an API token. Name it That Other Dashboard and add your email address as the contact.
  3. Set Store, Subscriptions and Orders to Read access.
  4. Leave every other permission on No access.
  5. Save, then copy the token.
  6. In That Other Dashboard, press Connect next to Recharge, paste the token and press Save.

At first only the store owner can see the API tokens page, and the owner has to accept Recharge's API terms once before anyone can make a token. Staff can be given access under account permissions.

That Other Dashboard checks the token when you save it. If a permission is missing it tells you which one. If the token has any write access, it refuses it: the app only ever reads, so it won't keep a token that could change subscriptions or take payments if it ever leaked. Make a new one with Read access only.

What it reads: active subscribers, new and cancelled subscriptions, and subscription revenue each day. It reads individual subscriptions only to count them and keeps just the totals. Recharge only keeps charges in its API for 90 days, so subscription revenue starts about 88 days back.

Once you're connected

  • Each tool fills in its own panel within a few minutes, then refreshes in the background whenever you open the dashboard, at most once an hour.
  • Each tool reports days in its own time zone, which can differ from your store's, so a day's figures can be split a little differently.
  • If an account reports in a different currency from your store, the dashboard says so, because ratios like MER would then mix the two currencies.
  • Logins and keys are encrypted before they are stored. Press Disconnect next to any tool and everything read from it is deleted. The detail is in our privacy policy.
  • If a tool shows Needs attention, its login or key has stopped working. Press Reconnect and follow the same steps.

Common questions

Can I connect more than one Meta ad account?

That Other Dashboard reads one ad account per tool, the one you choose after logging in. Pick the account that runs your store's ads.

Will connecting Meta change anything in my ad account?

No. The only permission That Other Dashboard asks for is to read ad performance. It can't create, pause or edit anything.

Why does Klaviyo's revenue add up to more than my sales?

Klaviyo credits an order to an email even when the customer also clicked an ad, and the ad platform will often claim the same order. Treat Klaviyo's figure as a guide to which emails work, not as a share of your total. Our MER against ROAS guide explains why tools overlap.
